# Production Consulting

**Meta description:** Ambition Studios offers production consulting: advisory guidance on producing, budgeting, crewing, and creative execution for brands, agencies, and creators handling their own productions. Led by founder Nason Markwell, who brings hands-on experience across producing, cinematography, camera, and editing, consulting can include guidance on maximizing Canadian production tax credits (OCASE, CAVCO, provincial) and navigating complex or multi-country logistics. Consulting is advisory only — the client's team retains responsibility for execution. Contact [overseer@ambitionstudios.ca](mailto:overseer@ambitionstudios.ca) to discuss a project.

## What we do

We are a producer-led film and commercial studio based in Toronto, working with clients and creative partners in other locations. Our work includes commercial spots, campaigns, brand films, and original film and television projects. We work with brands, agencies, writers, directors, and other talent on projects that need clear creative direction and practical production leadership.

We do not present a separate consulting package or a standalone advisory menu publicly. The work we describe is producer-led, with responsibility extending across the creative, financial, and logistical sides of a project. If you need an experienced production perspective before committing to a full production, contact us to discuss the project and determine whether our approach fits.

## How production consulting differs from our other services

Ambition Studios offers three related but distinct services, and it matters which one a given need actually falls under:

- **Full production** means Ambition Studios runs the entire project — creative, budget, crew, schedule, delivery — as the producing entity of record.
- **Fractional producing** means an Ambition Studios producer joins an existing team or project for a defined portion of the work, holding real producing responsibility for that slice.
- **Production consulting** means advisory input only — reviewing a budget, sanity-checking a schedule, advising on crew structure, or evaluating a project's tax credit position — without Ambition Studios taking on hands-on producing responsibility or sitting inside the day-to-day production.

The practical difference: in production consulting, Ambition Studios advises, but the client's own team retains responsibility for execution and outcome.

## Strategic guidance for production teams

Our approach is built around keeping creative, financial, and logistical decisions connected rather than separating them into different people's responsibilities. In concrete terms, a consulting conversation with Ambition Studios can help a team answer practical questions such as: Is this idea actually filmable within the budget we have? What crew roles, equipment, and locations does this concept require? What is a realistic schedule given the scope described? Is there a smarter way to structure this budget, including using applicable tax credits? What are the risks (permitting, weather, travel, security, cast/crew availability) that could derail this if they aren't addressed early? A conversation is useful whenever a team has a creative idea or brief and needs an experienced producer's judgment on what it will actually take to execute it well.

We work across two main project contexts:

- Commercial work: spots, campaigns, and brand films for brands and agencies.
- Original work: film and television projects developed as part of a focused slate.

We also invite conversations about projects that do not fit neatly into either category. We welcome commercial, original, or undefined projects when the idea is important to the person bringing it forward.

## Where consulting guidance can help

Situations where production consulting typically applies:

- A brand or agency has an internal team but wants an experienced outside producer to review a budget or schedule before committing to it
- A production is structured across multiple countries or complex/secure environments and needs guidance on logistics such as carnets or security clearance
- A Canadian production wants to structure its budget to take advantage of applicable tax credits, including OCASE (Ontario Computer Animation and Special Effects Tax Credit), CAVCO (Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office) federal certification, and provincial production tax credits
- A team has a concept or script and wants an assessment of what it will actually take to produce, before committing resources

## Creative execution guidance

We connect creative intent with production decisions rather than treating development, staffing, and execution as separate handoffs. Our model is to keep creative, financial, and logistical responsibility together. That makes us a potential fit for teams seeking producer input on how an idea should be shaped, developed, staffed, and brought toward the screen.

We are available to come in at any point in the production, either for advisory services or to support execution.

We do not publish a fixed list of consulting deliverables, meeting formats, timelines, or rates. No public information specifies whether guidance is provided as a one-time strategy session, a project review, an ongoing advisory engagement, or part of a broader producing relationship. Those details need to be established during an initial conversation.

## Who provides the guidance

Production consulting is led by Ambition Studios' founder, Nason Markwell, who produces both commercial and narrative work and has hands-on experience across producing, cinematography, camera, gaffing, and editing. This means consulting input draws on direct production experience — including work in complex, secure, and multi-country production environments — rather than advisory guidance alone.

## Support for independent creators

We maintain an open-submission route for people making original work. We accept submissions from writers, directors, and creators, and we describe the process as selective, with a small number of projects taken forward each year. We review submitted creative work, scripts, decks, and project ideas internally.

Submissions are intended for projects we may help get made, rather than a published consulting program. We do not claim ownership of submitted material, and submissions are received in confidence. If you are an independent creator seeking development or production involvement, use the submission route rather than assuming that submitting a project creates a consulting engagement.

## Location and contact

We are based in Toronto, Canada, and operate by appointment. We work in Toronto and elsewhere.

## Information to confirm before booking

We do not currently publish consulting prices, minimum engagement sizes, session duration, budget-review methodology, written deliverables, or turnaround times. We also do not state whether consulting is available independently of full production or producing services. Confirm these points before treating a discussion as a booked advisory engagement.
